Karachi: 2 suspects held, 560kg of hashish recovered
KARACHI: Officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh have arrested a member of the drug mafia from the Saudabad area of the city. The arrest led to the recovery of 560 kilograms of hashish.
SSP CID Sindh Mohammed Fayyaz Khan said on Monday that he received a tip-off from a spy regarding a wanted drug-pushing mafia that was present in the Saudabad area and was in possession of a huge quantity of narcotics.
He immediately ordered his team to carry out a raid. Though CID officials met with armed resistance upon their arrival, the encounter ended successfully with the arrest of Mohammad Amir and seizure of 560 kilograms of hashish.
The police shifted the accused to an investigation unit where he disclosed that his gang consisted of 11 members and that they sold narcotics in various locations across the city.
In related development, officials at the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested a street criminal, who is involved in a number of cases, including the murder of Police Constable (PC) Manzoor Hussain, in Sohrab Goth.
SSP CIA Raja Umer Khattab said that an investigation into the murder of the police official is under way. On June 2, PC Manzoor Hussain, in an attempt to foil a robbery, lost his life; though he was he was able to gun down one of the dacoits, two others escaped. Early this Monday morning, a spy provided the CIA with a tip-off about the location of the two escaped dacoits.
A team of the CIA conducted a raid based on the tip-off in which they arrested Ashiq Lassi, who had a pistol in his possession. Along with being involved in the murder of the PC, the accused is also thought to be involved in looting intercity buses, street crime and other criminal offences. The accused was on the wanted list of several police stations and has a history of criminal activity.
