Karachi: Man found shot dead in playground
KARACHI: A young man was found shot dead in a playground near Drigh Road within the remit of the Shah Faisal Colony police station on Sunday.
Police said the victim was identified as Muneer Ahmed, 38, son of Saain Muhammad.
The victim was shot in the eye. Police said the victim was a resident of Sadat Colony, Natha Khan Goth.
A duty officer at the Shah Faisal Colony police station said Muneer Ahmed was a drug addicts. His family, however, said he had quit using drugs.
The victim was facing trial and was on bail in a theft case of railway goods, the officer said.
On Saturday morning he told his family that he was going to the city courts in connection with the hearing of his case.
However, he did not return home by Saturday night and his family informed the police about his disappearance.
On Sunday morning at around 10am his body was found on the Azam Ground near Drigh Road.
The body bore torture marks, his nose and a lip were slit while a bullet had pierced his left eye, the duty officer said.
The victim was the father of two, police said.
Police registered an FIR (429/2011) under Sections 302-34 (premeditated murder) with (common intention), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen, offender if a capital offence, if punishable with imprisonment for life, if punishable with less than ten years imprisonment) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act on a complaint of the victim’s brother Sohail against unknown persons.
