KARACHI: Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sindh Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested three alleged bank robbers reported to have also been involved in the murder of a provincial minister.
According to SSP Raja Umar Khatab, the detained persons were involved in the murder of former Balochistan minister Rustam Jamali, besides some recent bank robberies carried out in the city. SSP Khatab said that a raid was conducted at Kati Pahari on the information of one Gulab Khan, earlier detained from Kohat, leading to the arrest of ringleader, Kamran alias Kami and Sher Khan.
He said the police also recovered looted cash worth Rs 0.827 million and valuables purchased by the robbed money besides three repeaters, three pistols, one 9mm pistol and several rounds. The SSP said detained Gulab during initial course of investigation confessed to have been involved in several heinous crimes, including murder of Balochistan minister Rustam Jamali, kidnapping, robberies and others. He said Gulab informed police that slain Jamali was targeted by his ringleader Kami at Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Further investigation was underway.
