Lahore: 3 carjackers gunned down by police
LAHORE: Three car snatchers were gunned down by the Anti–Vehicles Lifting Staff (AVLS) at Sheikhupura Motorway Interchange shortly after they sprayed indiscriminate bullets on police personnel in the wee hours on Tuesday.
One among the deceased has been identified as Akhtar Ali of Gujranwala. A police contingent of investigations and AVLS cordoned off the Motorway Interchange on Monday late night. The police officials selected a picket after information that a notorious car lifter gang comprising five memwould pass the interchange on the same night.
Policemen after seeing a Toyota Corolla car occupied by five unnamed men signalled it to stop but the driver tried to escape and his accomplices opened fire on the police party in order to avoid physical search. The police party also retaliated. As a result of crossfiring, three criminals were shot dead whereas two among them managed to flee.
Police claimed to have recovered three pistols from their possession and those who fled were equipped with automatic sophisticated Kalashnikovs. Police claimed that the deceased robbers were proclaimed offenders who had snatched a car from MPA Amna Ulfat and several others. Police claimed that the deceased robbers were hardened criminals.
