Burewala: SHO among 7 booked
BUREWALA: Seven people including the Sahuka Police House Officer (SHO) have been charged with torturing a youth to death following the ransacking of the police station by the irate family and locals against the incident. They also burnt tyres on road and chanted slogans against the police here on Wednesday.
According to the police report registered with the Fateh Shah Police, the daughter of Allah Yar, a resident of Basti Ratian Kot Qadar Bukhsh was married off to Muhammad Shehzad, a resident of Basti Koda Kachi Pakki. The other night her husband Muhammad Shehzad along with Sahuka Police SHO Tariq Hussain Salar came to the house of his in-laws to get back his wife but Ali Shahbaz, brother of his wife and mother-in-law Shakooran Bibi refused to let the girl go with her husband. Meanwhile, the police allegedly tortured both of them due to which the condition of Ali Shahbaz deteriorated. The police took him to Rural Health Centre (RHC) Sahuka for medical care but due to his precarious state he was referred to THQ hospital Burewala from where doctors referred him to Nishtar Hospital Multan where he breathed his lost. The Fateh Shah Police, on the application of the deceased’s brother registered a case against Sahuka Police SHO Tariq Hussain Salar, his five subordinates and Muhammad Shahzad under Section 302/148/149 PPC. Members of the bereaved family alleged they had a dispute with Muhammad Shehzad that’s why the girl had come to her parents house. They pointed out that the area didn’t fall in the jurisdiction of the Sahuka Police as it was situated in the precincts of the Fateh Shah Police. They accused the Sahuka Police of trespassing its jurisdiction and authority abuse. The relatives and locals went amok against the incident and ransacked the Sahuka Police Station. They also burnt tyres on road and chanted slogans against the police.
On the other hand, the police officials denied the deceased had died from the police torture, saying that the police received a call the other evening at 6:47pm about a scuffle between both the families. The Sahuka Police SHO who was on routine patrol reached the spot and interfered to end the dispute. Meanwhile, the condition of Ali Shahbaz got precarious and police took him to the RHC Sahuka for medical attention.
The police official claimed that a medical board had been constituted for the post-mortem of the deceased at DHQ Hospital Vehari and stern action would be taken against the police officials if found guilty in the autopsy report.
