Cop, woman among 5 killed in Dir encounter
DIR: Five persons, including a cop, were killed and four others sustained injuries in a clash in Sultankhel area of Wari Tehsil of Upper Dir district on Thursday, sources said.
The sources said acting on a tip-off about the presence of some outlaws, a police party headed by Station House Officer Hazrat Ali raided a house in Sheratkal village at 5am.
The sources said the inmates of the house opened fire on the police party, leaving a cop dead. The slain cop was identified as Gulzar.
The sources said the exchange of fire continued for seven hours in which four persons, including a woman, were killed. Four other persons sustained injuries in the attack.
The slain persons were identified Rehmatullah, Muhammad Iqbal and Akhtar Amin while the identity of the woman could not be ascertained. The injured included Matiullah, Salauddin, Azam Khan and Rehmanuddin.
The angry relatives, locals and activists of the political parties blocked the Dir–Peshawar Road and warned that they would not open the road until registration of an FIR against the police party involved in the incident.
