Islamabad: Angry students torch RBISE office, record
ISLAMABAD: Fed up with the delay in declaration of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part I results by the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, a large number of enraged students on Thursday marched on one of the board offices, and set it on fire.
They tore off the office record and blocked the traffic for more than three to four hours by burning office record and equipment on Sixth Road.
Carrying burning sticks in their hands the angry students barged into the board office at Sixth Road, scuffled with the board staff and took away the record and set the building on fire. They also pelted stones on nearby buildings and even hurled threats at motorcyclists who tried to evade them while moving on the road.
A large contingent of police led by City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed reached the spot and used teargas shells and resorted to aerial firing to disperse the enraged mob.
Talking to ‘The News’ RBISE spokesman Arsalan Cheema said that the HSSC Part-I result would be announced on December 24, 2011. “The reason behind delay in the announcement of the result is that we have not been able to finalise the full result,” he said, adding the mob barged into the office, snatched the whole record since 1978 and they beat up the board staff. “As soon as the students entered the office I called the police to control the situation,” he added.
He said: “We would take strict action against those responsible for creating such an ugly situation.” He also alleged that police could not control the situation properly while he had called them in time.
Talking to ‘The News’ the CPO said that they did not use force against students to save precious lives. “If we had used force, several students could have lost their lives or suffered injuries. I ordered my force to disperse them peacefully. We have deployed cops in all board offices to avoid any untoward incident again,” he said.
Talking to ‘The News’ enraged students said that board officials were only giving dates to announce HSSC Part I result. They are only giving us date after date. “We are suffering because of the delay in the announcement of the results due to mismanagement,” they added.
