Karachi: Car snatcher killed in police encounter
KARACHI: The Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) killed an alleged car lifter in an encounter and recovered two snatched vehicles and a TT pistol on Thursday.
SP ACLC Javed Akbar Raiaz told The News that after receiving a tip-off that car snatchers were using the National Highway route to disposing of snatched vehicles, the ACLC’s District East police started snap checking on the highway in the Steel Town police limits.
The police spotted two vehicles which were reported to have been snatched in District Central. The driver of one of the vehicles saw the police approaching and fled, abandoning the vehicle.
Later, another Toyota Corolla (ATM-128), which had been snatched from near the PP Haideri post reached the spot. The police signalled it to stop. The suspected occupants, however, opened fire and sped away.
Police gave the vehicle a chase. On reaching Dhabejee, the police started firing and killed the alleged car lifter, while his accomplice managed to flee. During his body search, the police Dhabejeea fake police Qaumi Razaqar Card, which gave his name as Nizamuddin Jamali, 45.
The police took his body to a Dhabajee hospital for legal formalities. The police said that the suspects had been involved in a number of car-snatching cases and he was also arrested by the ACLC a few years back. The police also said that the suspect had come from the Jhatpat area in Balochistan.
