Kohat: Hashish seized
KOHAT: The excise and taxation department foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of hashish via Quetta to Iran and arrested two alleged smugglers on Indus Highway here on Saturday.
The officials of the department said that they intercepted a truck bound for Quetta on a tip-off. They recovered hundreds of kilograms of hashish from the secret cavities of the vehicle.
The officials impounded the truck and handed over hashish and the arrested persons to Riaz Khan Shaheed police station for investigation. The excise and police department officials took sealed samples from all the five bags to present them before the judge along with the alleged smugglers in the court on Monday.
Inspector Tariq Afridi, who seized the hashish, told Dawn that the consignment was booked from Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency for Quetta and it was to be smuggled to Iran. “The smugglers, Minnat Khan and Gulsher, also belong to Bara,” he said.
He said that estimated price of the consignment in local and foreign market was several million rupees.
