Narowal DO found guilty of corruption
NAROWAL: The district officer (buildings) of Narowal has been booked for allegedly awarding contracts to his blue-eyed contractors following an inquiry conducted by DO (coordination) wherein the former was found guilty of corruption.
Contractor Sharafat Hussain had lodged a complaint to the Anti Corruption Establishment director of Gujranwala against DO Nadeemuddin who also holds the additional charge of Executive District Officer (Works and Services). He mentioned in the complaint an inquiry report conducted by the Narowal district officer (coordination) on the directions of the district coordination officer. He said that the DO (coordination) found the DO (buildings) guilty in his inquiry and the DCO then forwarded that report to the Secretary C&W Department through his letter on June 29, 2011 for initiation of departmental proceedings against him.
In his complaint, the contractor alleged that the DO had committed corruption and malpractices in awarding tenders and was making payments to the contractors for their allegedly incomplete works. The also said that the DO had pooled with some government contractors of his choice for awarding tenders only to them. For the purpose, he added, the EDO (Works and Services) enlisted with government only the contractors of his choice and debarred illegally all the other contractors who are validly enlisted with the Communication and Works Department, Punjab.
He stated that the DO (buildings) had also released the security deposits to his favourite contractors for their incomplete works in illegal and unlawful manners and got 10 percent share of the released amount from them as bribe. Following the report, the Anti Corruption Establishment Director had ordered registration of a case against Nadeemuddin.
An FIR under sections 409, 420, 468, 471 of Pakistan Penal Code and Section 5 of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered with anti-corruption police station, Narowal. However no arrest has been made so far.
