Karachi: Cigarette, Gutka smuggling bid foiled
KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods worth millions of rupees in a raid on the RCD Highway on Monday.
Personnel of the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) conducted the raid after receiving a tip-off about a smuggling bid, said Qamar Thalho of Pakistan Customs. “We were told that a bus with the registration number PO-787 would be used for smuggling goods into the country through Quetta,” he added.
The suspected bus was intercepted near Mochko and the driver could not produce legal documents proving his possession of the articles laden on the vehicle, the official said. The driver was arrested and the smuggled items — cigarettes and Gutka worth Rs11,316,250, were seized.
