Karachi: PPP man among three killed in separate violence acts
KARACHI: Three people, including an activist of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), were shot dead in separate acts of violence in different parts of the metropolis on Tuesday.
The PPP activist was gunned down and his sister injured in a firing incident along MT Khan Road, Sultanabad, within the limits of Jackson police station. Iqbal Swati, 48, son of Ajab Gul Swati, was going to a court with his sister Nasreen, 35, in a taxi when unidentified armed men, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire on them. Resultantly Swati died on the spot, while his sister sustained bullet injuries. The culprits fled after swift operation. Police shifted the dead and injured to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities and treatment.
SHO Abdullah Ghomro said the victim and his sister had a dispute with Sher Naseeb Khan, who is the husband of Nasreen’s daughter and her divorce case was in the court, adding that at the time of incident they were going to court when motorcyclists targeted them.
The police officer said Nasreen gave a statement that Naseeb opened fire on them, along with his friend. The victim was a retired employee of Sui Southern Gas Company and father of three children. The officer said the victim was also an active PPP worker. Police have registered an FIR (690/11) against Naseeb and his friend and initiated a probe into the case.
Separately, a security guard of a wine shop was killed in firing of his fellow guard along Suparco Road, within the limits of Mauripur police station. Thirty-two-year-old guard Rashid, son of Latif, was sitting with other security guard Javed at the wine shop, located along Suparco Road, Mawatch Goth, Baldia. Javed was cleaning a rifle when it went off and its bullet hit the head of Rashid. Resultantly he died on the spot. Police have arrested Javed and shifted the body to CHK for medico-legal formalities.
SHO Mohammad Waseem said the victim was a resident of Azam Basti, Mehmoodabad and hailed from Rahim Yar Khan. The body was handed over to heirs. No case was registered till filing the report.
Meanwhile, a policeman was gunned down in City Railway Colony within the jurisdiction of Mithadar police station on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Syed Irshad Hussain, 42, son of Nawab Hussain. He was posted to the Courts police.
According to Mithadar police officials, the deceased was standing near his residence when two armed men riding on a motorcycle shot and killed him.
SHO Aurangzaib Khattak said that the culprits shot and killed the victim as he offered resistance on a robbing bid. The deceased was shot once on his abdomen and was taken to the CHK where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Deceased hailed from Sukkur and was the father of six children. No case was registered till the filing of this story.
