Rawalpindi: Man shaves off wife’s head over domestic issues
RAWALPINDI: A man, allegedly involved in criminal activities, shaved off his 15-year-old wife’s head to humiliate her after torturing her over domestic issues in Iqbal Town located along Khokhar Road, police said.
However police could not book the man, as there was no cognizable law to protect women from such humiliation. According to police, Ghulam Ali, 47, a resident of Khokhar Road in Islamabad, got married with 14-year-old Madiha Shaheen three months back. He started torturing his bride in the first week of wedlock.
On Tuesday, Ghulam Ali started beating her and kicked her out of his house after shaving her head. Madiha Shaheen went to her parents and narrated the tale of torture by her husband. Her mother took her to the Sadiqabad Police Station and lodged a complaint against Ghulam Ali, but police officials there referred them to the Shahzad Town Police Station, as the alleged offence took place in the jurisdiction of the Shahzad Town Police Station.
The Shahzad Town Police, when contacted by this scribe, said that the Ghulam Ali was a history-sheeter and involved in criminal activities. They said that police have taken up the case but he could not be booked under any section of the Pakistan Penal Code. According to police, a separate law under the Women Protection Act was needed to declare such crime a heinous offence like the law relating to acid-throwing.
