Karachi: Man, elderly mother killed resisting robbers; drug den owner shot dead

KARACHI: A man and his mother were killed when they put up resistance to robbers who were trying to gang-rape the man’s wife during a robbery in the Bilal Colony police limits on Thursday.

Police said a group of six men barged into 35-year-old Javed’s house in Sector-5-E, 35 in New Karachi, and locked all family members in a room at gunpoint. Two robbers kept guard, while the others collected cash, jewellery and other valuables.

When two of the robbers then tried to gang-rape Javed’s wife, Javed and his mother, Ameena Bibi, 60, put up resistance. At this, the robbers opened fire, killed both of them on the spot and fled with the loot.

On being informed, police took the bodies to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities. The police said Javed was the owner of a milk shop.

Meanwhile, an elderly watchman was murdered in the Kharadar police limits on Thursday. Abdul Rafeeq, 60, was stabbed to death by unidentified people at the Lateef Cloth Market in Bolton Market while he was asleep.



In the morning, when his employer’s came over to the office he saw his body and informed the police. Police said he was killed over enmity. Meanwhile, Liaquat Bangash, 50, died when the lift of his factory in the Metroville SITE-A police limits fell down.

Moreover, a drug den owner was among two people gunned down in a clash in the Sohrab Goth police limits on Thursday night. Lal Khan, 40, and Shamoon, 13, suffered bullet wounds when activists of a criminal group came over to the drug den of Lal Khan behind the Super Market of Al-Asif Square situated on the Super Highway and opened fire after a heated argument. Supporters of Lal Khan retaliated, however the armed men managed to flee.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital but died on the way. Later their bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

SP Gadap Muhammad Altaf Sarwar Malik told The News that Lal Khan was running a drug den and the other group tried to stop him from doing so. But he refused and on Thursday they attacked his den and killed two people including the den owner Khan. The SP said that there was some personal enmity among them.
