3 captives recovered after clash in Dera
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police recovered three kidnapped persons and killed two alleged kidnappers during an exchange of fire in Dera Ismail Khan district while two kidnappers blew themselves up to evade capture, official sources said on Sunday.
The sources said the three persons, including Dr Yusuf, Dr Latif and one Bashir, were driving in a car when a group of gunmen intercepted their vehicle in Miran area late Saturday night and kidnapped them at gunpoint. The police chased the kidnappers and managed to secure release of the kidnapped persons after a clash, the sources said.
The sources said that two kidnappers were killed during the clash and another two blew themselves up to avoid arrest. The slain kidnappers were identified as Shamsuddin and Khaldun, both residents of Kulachi in Dera Ismail Khan district. An accomplice of the kidnappers fled the scene, the sources said. It wasn’t clear if these men were professional kidnappers or had links with militants.
Meanwhile, four unidentified gunmen kidnapped a police constable from the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station on Sunday, police sources said. The sources said that Constable Jawad was sitting in a shop at Sheikh Yousaf Adda in the limits of Saddar Police Station when four armed men came over there and seized him at gunpoint.
The kidnappers, the sources said, bundled the policeman into their car and drove away towards an unknown location. The police constable was in civvies when the incident occurred.
Soon after the incident, the police cordoned off the area and barricaded all the entry and exit points of the city to recover the kidnapped policeman. However, he could not be recovered till filing of this report.
