Lahore: Robbers killed 3 people last week
LAHORE: Robbers killed three people and shot injured 11 others on offering resistance during robbery bids besides robbing over 170 Lahorites during the last one week.
However, Investigation Wing of Lahore police have failed to trace any of the robbery-cum-murder incidents.
The trend in crime against property was observed violent while no change was witnessed in the lethargic attitude of Lahore police towards criminals in the provincial metropolis.
The commanders of Lahore police and Punjab police have started holding extensive crime review meetings during the last couple of weeks but the masses have yet to taste the positive results of bureaucratic meetings of police officers.
Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Javed Iqbal had also expressed complete dissatisfaction over the performance of Lahore police in a meeting held last week. He was of the view that crime ratio in Lahore had consistently been increasing while the commanders of Lahore police, including DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, were enjoy perks at their offices instead of visiting the crime-hit areas to devise better crime-fighting strategy.
It is also worth mentioning here that CCPO Malik Ahmad Raza Tahir was inducted in Lahore police to eliminate criminals especially robbers through fake police encounters. He did his ‘best job’ during the first month by killing around eight criminals in fake encounters but as his feathers were cut down by the IGP and the Lahore High Court by imposing ban on fake encounters, his major crime-fighting strategy was completely shelved.
Now the CCPO has in fact nothing to do with crime fighting and passing his time by cracking jokes in front of victims, no matter they are traders or laymen. The commander of Lahore police is used to tell jokes to the audience at every tense environment to soothe the wrath of enraged victims of robberies and other crimes. Recently, the office-bearers of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) invited him to express their concerns but the CCPO pacified angry traders/businessmen by telling around five ‘classical jokes’ to them. He diverted the attention of traders from their grave issues in a very clever manner that traders preferred to hear jokes instead of expressing their concerns.
Same is the case with the complainants visiting his office, they visit his office to express their anger against IOs and SHOs but they return after listening to some beautiful jokes from the commander of the Lahore police. However, nowadays, the CCPO is trying to find out some different way to stage encounters so that nobody could guess the encounters are fake. A couple of weeks back, the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) had killed three persons in an encounter staged at Sheikhupura interchange. Once again, the CCPO in his LCCI address had hinted to eliminate criminals in encounters similar to AVLS’ successful strike.
