Karachi: Vegetable vendor among 2 shot dead
KARACHI: A vegetable vendor was shot dead at the Empress Market, while a man was found dead in a house in Tori Bangash Colony on Sunday.
Iqbal, 55, was shot and injured by two unidentified motorcyclists in his vegetable shop at the Empress Market in the Preedy police limits on Sunday morning.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Iqbal suffered two bullet wounds. He was a resident of Sector-11C, North Karachi.
Police suspected that Iqbal might have been killed over some family dispute.
In the Iqbal Market police limits, an unidentified man was killed while one Amjad injured.
According to DSP Tariq Malik, the incident occurred in a house in Masoomabad, Tori Bangash Colony.
At about 11:30am, an entry was received by the police station that an injured man had been brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Accordingly, the police reached the hospital, where Amjad told them that he was fired upon by some robbers.
The police immediately went to Amjad’s house where they found a man lying dead and a woman present there. The police asked the woman, who identified herself as Ayesha, about the dead man, to which she replied that she was the wife of Amjad and had no knowledge about the dead man.
The police detained Ayesha for questioning during which she told the police that on Sunday morning her husband’s friend Shahnawaz visited their house with the unknown man and her husband told her that they had some petty matter to discuss. Later, Amjad told her to fetch some vegetables from a nearby market.
Ayesha said that while she was returning home she saw her husband going with Shahnawaz on a motorcycle, and when she reached her house she found that unknown man lying dead on the floor.
DSP Malik said that the police present at the hospital were told to detain Amjad. During questioning, Amjad disclosed that Shahnawaz had a petty dispute with the unknown man, and during the conversation Shahnawaz opened fire, which killed the man and wounded Shahnawaz.
A case has been registered and police are investigating the matter.
