Karachi: Seminary student killer held
KARACHI: The authorities claim to have arrested a young man allegedly involved in the murder of Hafiz Ahmed Qamar, a student of Jamia Farooqia in Shah Faisal Colony.
Qamar was the son of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Qamaruddin who was kidnapped and beaten to death while five others were injured in a clash during a Muharram procession on December 21 passing through Jamia Farooqia from Hussaini Mission Imambargah.
According to SHO Khalid Nadeem Baig, they had arrested Ali Raza alias Ali Langra, one of the prime suspects. He said that Raza was also injured in the clash and was taken to a private hospital in Soldier Bazaar. He added that the suspect had been arrested in a murder case earlier but was released on bail. At a press conference on Friday, seminary scholars including the chief administrator of Jamia Farooqia, Maulana Abeedullah Khalid, warned the government of dire consequences if the suspects were not arrested. They claimed that the incident was not a clash between two rival groups but an attack on the students of the madrassa.
