MARDAN: The police Sunday arrested two persons on the Bypass Road after recovering explosive material from them, officials said. They said that acting on a tip-off the police set up a barricade on the road in the limits of Toru Police Station and signalled a vehicle (2928/SLG) to stop. During search, 570 dynamites (75 kilograms), 100 metres safety fuse and a rifle were recovered from the vehicle. Abdul Wahid, resident of Sharifabad and Mairaj Ali, resident of Charsadda, were also arrested.
TAXILA: The National Highway and motorway police (NH&MP) and Taxila Police in different incidents foiled bids to smuggle narcotics from Peshawar and arrested two outlaws, allegedly members of an organised gang. In the first incident, NH&MP on the Peshawar to Islamabad Motorway confiscated 5 kilogrammes of hashish. NH&MP spokesman Umer Shoaib told newsmen that acting on a tip-off, a patrol team headed by patrolling Officer Mohammad Shafeeq stopped a car violating traffic rules. During search over 5 kilogrammes of hashish was recovered. Police also arrested the driver.
LAHORE: North Cantt police Sunday arrested 13 persons, including four girls, from a guesthouse on charges of merrymaking. The arrested accused were identified as Shahzad, Waqar, Akmal, Majid, Amir, Abbas, Chand, Imran, Luqman, Uzma, Tania, Hina and Nabeela.
BUREWALA: A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation team Sunday arrested Shahzad Saleem Bhatti, son of PPP MPA from Burewala City Sardar Khalid Saleem Bhatti, in Ogra former chief Tauqir Sadiq’s fraud case. Shahzad Saleem was declared a front man of Tauqir Sadiq to allegedly receive more than Rs 50 million from different parties to get their CNG stations approved from Ogra former chairman Tauqir Sadiq.
KARACHI: Law Enforcers claimed to have nabbed over two dozens of suspects in separate targeted raids in different parts of the metropolis on Sunday. They conducted operation in Raja Tavneer Colony situated in Orangi Town and claimed to have apprehended over a dozen of suspects besides recovering a large cache of ammunitions from their possession. A police official said that on a tip-off, a heavy contingent of law enforcers conducted a targeted operation in Raja Tanveer colony and cordoned off the link road heading towards the colony.
KARACHI: The customs officials have seized eight falcons of a Bahraini royal family member on suspicion that they have been changed during a visit here, Dawn has learnt. A passenger was taking these falcons by a flight to Bahrain a few days ago, sources said. Responding to Dawn queries on Sunday, customs assistant collector at the Jinnah International Airport Rana Aftab said that a few days ago a passenger, Salim Eid Rafeea Thani, brought 29 falcons and presented a document issued by the foreign ministry saying that the falcons belonged to a Bahraini royal family member, Sheikh Ahmed Ali Abdullah Isa Al–Khalifa, and he was taking the birds to Bahrain.
KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, conducted a search operation in Ittehad Town here earlier on Sunday. A Rangers spokesman said that 12 alleged criminals `mostly belonging to defunct organization’ were arrested. He further pointed out that 60 weapons of different calibres, including rifles, shotguns and pistols, were seized from them.
LANDI KOTAL: The border guards at the Torkham border on Sunday arrested an Afghan national Naqeebullah and seized fake currency from his possession. Also at the border, an unidentified person was hit and killed by a trailer. The body was shifted to local hospital for identification.
NANKANA SAHIB: The district police busted three dacoits’ gangs involved in motorcycles snatching and arrested its 11 members along with booty. The police recovered 10 motorcycles, 6 pistols 30–bore, 1 riffle, 1 carbine along with dozens of bullets from the accused. As per detail, on the instructions of DPO Ghulam Mubashar Maken, the police launched a crackdown on criminals across the district.
CHARSADDA: The authorities arrested two suspects in the December 19 attack on the anti–polio campaigners, official sources said on Saturday. The sources said that officials of the intelligence agencies raided a house in Shabqadar and arrested two suspected persons identified as Shafiqullah and Darvesh. Both were stated to be involved in the attacks. They were shifted to an undisclosed location for an interrogation, the sources added. Three attacks were carried out on the anti–polio workers in the district on December 19 in which a lady worker Zakia Begum and driver Ayaz Khan were killed.
