KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID), Sindh Police, on Saturday claimed to have arrested five militants of a banned outfit, Punjabi Taliban belonging to Ustad Aslam group and recovered explosive material, suicide jackets and weapons from their possession.
Additional DIG CID Ghulam Shabbir Sheikh told media at CID Civil Line office along with SSP CID Operation Mazhar Mashwani that a CID police team conducted a raid at the National Highway area near Thermal factory in Shah Latif area and arrested four militants, Ala Uddin alias Shakir Ullah who was Ameer of Punjabi Taliban Sindh chapter, Farhan Khan alias Ali, Amir Shahzad alias Mufti Asad Ullah and Shah Jahan alias Adnan Munna.
He said they recovered two ready suicide jackets, 145 kg explosive material, six detonators, 23 rocket grenades, three kalashnikovs, one 9mm pistol; two kg ball bearings, 10 kg fertilizer and detonating wires from their possessions.
ADIG CID said the detained men had confessed that they belonged to Ustad Aslam group, the Ameer of Punjabi Taliban, and they had planned to attack judges, high police officials, law enforcement agencies’ personnel and government offices.
He said Ala Uddin is the Ameer of organisation’s Sindh chapter and on 2010 he tried to looted a bank in Pirabad area along with his accomplices but police rushed to the scene after which he tried to blow a grenade, resultantly he received injuries and then police arrested him but after few weeks his accomplices managed to let him flee from police custody at the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) during treatment.
“After that he went to Punjab and then Ustad Aslam gave him Rs 1.7 million and assigned him task to establish the network in Sindh. Later, he purchased weapons and other explosive material and made strong network in Sindh, especially in Karachi.”
SSP Mashwani said during interrogation, the accused also confessed to kill seven people, including a police constable in Hyderabad during 2011.
ADIG Sheikh further said accused also confessed to big terrorism activities which we will share with media very soon.
