Karachi: Cop on duty at US consulate post among 4 killed
KARACHI: A policeman was found dead at a check post of the US consulate, while two watchmen were shot dead, and a labourer lost his life during a clash between two groups of land grabbers on Monday.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Anwer Sheikh, 35, was found dead inside a check post of the US Consulate on Mai Kolachi Road in the Jackson police limits on Monday morning. Following the receipt of information from the security cell, a team of the Jackson police rushed to the spot and found SI Sheikh’s body inside Check Post No. 7. They arrested Head Constable Rana Amir deputed along with SI Sheikh at the post and seized his SMG.
During questioning, HC Amir told the police that he handed over his SMG to SI Sheikh prior to going to the washroom on Monday morning. But he soon heard the sound of a gunshot, immediately came out of the washroom and rushed to the check post where he found SI Sheikh lying dead and blood oozing out from his chest, while his (Amir’s) SMG was lying on the ground.
However, the police detained Amir for interrogation to ascertain whether it was a murder or a suicide. SI Sheikh was posted at the Foreign Security Cell of the Sindh Police and lived in the Soldier Bazaar police lines. He has left behind a widow and three children.
Mohammad Asif, 36, was shot dead in Pehlwan Goth, Block-19, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police said that Asif, a watchman, was performing his duty when two men, riding a motorcycle, appeared there and killed him. The watchman suffered received two bullet wounds. The police recovered two empty casings of a 9mm pistol from crime scene. Police said that it was a target killing incident.
Asif lived in Al-Asif Square, and he has left behind a widow and two children. Another watchman, Mohammad Ayub, was shot dead in a similar manner while performing his duty in MPR Colony in the Orangi Town police limits. He also suffered two bullet wounds of a 9mm pistol.
Police were ascertaining whether it was a target killing incident or Ayub was murdered over some enmity. The deceased was a resident of Baloch Goth and hailed from Quetta. Meanwhile, Ashiq lost his life after falling victim to crossfire between two groups of land grabbers fighting for the possession of a plot in Gohraam Bugti Goth in the Bin Qasim police limits.
