Chakwal gang-rape case; 4 cops issued arrest warrants
CHAKWAL: A division bench of the Federal Shariat Court on Thursday issued arrest warrants for four cops involved in the gang-rape case occurred 17 years ago.
The court ordered to produce the accused in court in 15 days subject to the availability of the bench comprising Justice Shahzadado Sheikh and Justice Rizwan Ali Doodani. The accused, including Hasnain Mehdi, ASI Malik Mukhtar Ahmed and Khalid Awan, were present in the court. The warrants have been issued for head constable Azizullah Tilwala, former constable Khalid Mehmood, former head constable Ghulam Ahmed and Ishaq Hasarat. Ansar Nawaz Mirza appeared on behalf of Rozeena Shaheen, the victim, while Sakhi Kahoot represented Hasnain Mehdi. ASI Mukhtar Ahmed and Khalid Awan did not produce their counsel.
CIA Chakwal police officials with three persons had raped Rozeena Shaheen and no case was registered despite it was confirmed in the medical report that she was gang-raped. The victim’s mother, Nasreen Akhtar, filed a complaint before the additional district and sessions judge who dismissed it. The appeal was filed in the Federal Shahriat Court, which remanded it to the sessions judge for trial. It was again dismissed. The matter is again pending with the Federal Shariat Court.
