Hafizabad: Dacoits take away gold worth Rs 100m
HAFIZABAD: Over 15 dacoits took away gold ornaments worth Rs 100 million from a jeweller’s shop here on Wednesday night. The dacoits reached the main bazaar and held two watchmen hostage after torturing them. Later, they cut the locks of Akhlaq Jewellers with a cutter and looted gold ornaments worth Rs 100 million from lockers. On Thursday, traders observed a shutdown and took out a rally and chanted slogans against the police. They held the DPO and the DSP responsible for the ‘daku raj’ in the district.
The rally, which started from Fawara Chowk, was led by PPP MPA Malik Fiaz Awan, former MPA Dr Muzaffar Ali Sheikh, Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran president Sheikh Muhammad Amjad and Haji Muhammad Rafiq Mughal. The protesters blocked traffic by burning tyres and demanded immediate transfer of all the police officers.
The leaders said that the crime rate had gone up and dacoits and robbers were ruling the district. They said that the police had totally failed in controlling the crime. They said that it was the biggest robbery in the city. They demanded the police high-ups arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran was held with Sheikh Muhammad Amjad in the chair. As many as 42 organisations participated in the meeting. The meeting also decided to observe a shutdown against the dacoity on Friday. On the other hand, jewellers announced a strike for an indefinite period.
