Karachi: TTP suspect, LeJ extortionist arrested
KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday claimed to have arrested a suspected terrorist of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and an extortionist associated with the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) in separate raids.
SSP CID Fayyaz Khan told The News the police party raided several hideouts in Quaidabad to arrest Farhan of the TTP. The police said they recovered three Kalashnikovs, four hand grenades, a 7mm rifle, one TT pistol and over 50 bullets from him.
During the initial interrogation, Farhan reportedly told the police that he and his accomplices had planted a bomb to target a Rangers van, killing four personnel of the paramilitary force.
The suspect also admitted that he had tried to attack SSP Chaudhry Aslam Khan, SP Khurrum Waris, SP Raja Umar Khatab and Justice Maqbool Baqar.
Meanwhile, the CID arrested a militant of the Lashkar-e-Jhangwi (LeJ). The suspect was identified as Rayaz Afghani alias Zahid Hussain, and was arrested for collecting money for the LeJ.
The government had previously announced a head money of Rs0.5 million for the suspect. The police claimed to have recovered a huge quantity of arms and weapons from him. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) CID Muzffar Mashwani told The News that he called for a raid after receiving a tip that the suspect was hiding near Hub River Road in the Saeedabad police limits.
The police recovered two hand grenades, two TT pistols, one repeater, one ‘mouser’ and hundreds of live bullets from his possession.
