Karachi: Couple murdered, chopped and dumped
KARACHI: The disposal of the corpses of murder victims in gunny bags seems to have become a preferred method in the city, where the bodies of a young man and a woman were discovered in such bags in a lane near Metroville in the SITE area on Monday.
The double murder victims appeared to be in their 20s. Their identities are yet to be established.
The corpse of the man had been hacked into pieces, stuffed in two gunny bags and dumped near the Khyber Chowk in the SITE-A police limits.
SITE-A SHO Basheer said that after receiving information, he and his team rushed to the scene and found three gunny bags there.
He said that in one bag, the head, legs and hands of the man were found, while his torso was found in the second one. When the law enforcers opened the third bag, they discovered the body of the woman who had been strangled with a stole, which was still tied around her neck.
A medical examination at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital revealed that the victims were tortured before being killed.
Basheer said the man and the woman looked like they hailed from the Northern Areas of the country.
The police are looking at a number of lines of inquiry to establish the motive behind the double murder. They suspect that the murder could have been the result of a personal enmity or the two victims could have been lovers who were targeted after they eloped. However, the police have not managed to recover any evidence from the crime scene.
The police called forensic staff, who snapped pictures of the bodies and also took their fingerprints.
The SHO said that DNA samples had also been taken to help with identification.
He added that the fingerprints were sent to the National Database & Registration Authority and the identification process might take some time.
