Lahore: Majid sent to jail on 14-day remand
LAHORE: A special Judicial Magistrate Zafer Iqbal on Monday sent accused Dr. Majid Naeem, the former principal of College of Information Technology, Punjab University, to jail on 14-day judicial remand for his alleged involvement in embezzlement of Rs.2,50,000.
The court has directed police to provide a copy of FIR to the accused and produce him before the court again by January 30.
Anti-corruption unit had arrested Majid on the charges of embezzling Rs 250,000 by purchasing machinery from his personal firm.
It is pertinent to mention that the accused was also nominated in a reference of NAB on the charges of withdrawing Rs. 3.9 million from the university funds without approval of the competent authority. Later, the court issued his release orders as he paid the misappropriated amount to the NAB Punjab through a plea bargain deal.
