Lahore: Youth injured by dacoits finally dies
LAHORE: A 22-year-old youth who was admitted to a local hospital with multiple bullet wounds he sustained during robbery attempt in Qila Gujjar Singh Area a few days ago, has succumbed to injuries, hospital sources said on Tuesday.
Resident of Muhammad Nagar, Majid Ali, riding on a motorcycle was on his way home when two robbers intercepted him near Bibi Pakdaman shrine on January 14. The bandits held him up at gunpoint and demanded cash and mobile phone.
As the motorcyclist offered resistance and tried to overpower one of the robbers, the other opened straight fire at him from close range. The robbers fled away after snatching cash and valuables while youth was rushed to the Mayo Hospital in critical condition.
Emotional scenes were witnessed outside the hospital ward after the doctors pronounced him dead as many of his relatives and friends burst into tears. They were seen smashing their heads with the fences near the parking lot, creating a horrible situation in the crowded hospital ground. Majid Ali remained in the intensive care unit of the emergency ward in the hospital for three days but succumbed to bullet injuries on early Tuesday, police sources said.
According to medical experts, a good number of relatives of the deceased continued prayers amid tear for his early recovery and doctors also leave not stone unturned to stabilise his condition but to no avail.
The police have removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy and are investigating with no arrest made so far.
The incidents of killings during armed robberies have registered an alarming increase in the recent past, suggesting the police have failed to control the heinous crimes in this vulnerable society.
A day earlier, robbers stabbed a teenage rickshaw to death in Sabzazar Area and fled away after snatching his auto-rickshaw.
Found murdered: A 25-year-old man was found shot dead in Nishtar Colony Area, police said on Tuesday. Police investigators said that the man, yet to be identified so far, was lying dead with multiple bullet wounds near Azam Chowk as they rushed to the spot. Some passersby spotted the dead body and contacted the police by phone. The police have registered a case.
