8 judges of Bahawalnagar district robbed by dacoits
BAHAWALPUR: Eight judges of Bahawalnagar district courts were robbed of cash and valuables by nine dacoits near Bhukan Pattan in the Takhat Mahal police limits on Wednesday night.
The judges were returning to Bahawalnagar from Khanewal after condoling the death of the brother-in-law of Bahawalnagar District and Sessions Judge Safdar Saleem Shahid when the dacoits hiding behind the tractor-trolleys loaded with sugarcane suddenly appeared, intercepted them and robbed them of cash, mobile phones, watches and other valuables. The dacoits also tortured some of the judges on offering resistance to them. It is learnt that the robbers also snatched a pistol from one of the judges.
When contacted, Bahawalnagar DPO Suleman Ali Khan confirmed the incident and claimed that the police had arrested one of the nine dacoits and recovered the booty from him. He said that no FIR had been registered so far because it depended on the judges.
Meanwhile, the Bahawalnagar District Bar Association protested against the incident and gave a two-day strike call to express solidarity with the judges. District Bar Association president Ch Noor Hassan immediately convened a meeting of the bar general body and condemned the incident. Lawyers observed a complete strike and boycotted the court proceedings to register their protest.
