Lahore: 5 women MPAs booked over bogus degrees
LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan, Punjab, on Friday registered cases against five female Members of Punjab Assembly, including four of the PML-N for holding bogus degrees.
Five FIRs (85,86, 87, 88, 89/2012) have been registered against PML-N MPAs Afshan Farooq, Farah Deeba, Naseem Nasir Khawaja, Saima Aziz and PPP (Parliamentarians) MPA Safia Saima Khar.
A communique was forwarded by Deputy Election Commissioner Punjab, Rana Ishtiaq, to the IG Punjab, requesting him to register the cases. On Friday, the Islampura police booked the MPAs under sections 78, 82, 94, 199, 200 of the Peoples Representative Act (1976) and 471 of Pakistan Penal Code.
According to the provincial ECP, educational degrees of the lawmakers proved to be bogus on verification. The MPAs had been elected on reserved seats after the 2008 general elections. Later, the EC had asked the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to verify degrees of all elected MPs across the country. Several MPs had to step down after their degrees proved to be bogus.
