Karachi: Mother of 2 hanged to death
KARACHI: Forty-two-year-old Islamia Bibi, a mother of two, was hanged to death early on Sunday morning in the Quaidabad police limits.
The police found no one in the house except the body when they visited the crime scene after being informed by the neighbours about the presence of the corpse. They shifted the body to hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of her murder.
The police quoted the neighbours as saying that the house belonged to Raj Ameer, a labourer, and that the deceased was his wife.
They told the police that the couple, along with their two children, had been living in the house since long, but the family originally hailed from Swat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The neighbours claimed to have heard quarrels from the house almost on a daily basis.
On Saturday night, they again heard the couple fighting and arguing. However, they went silent after a while. On Sunday morning, when they knocked at the door, they found Ameer’s house open. As one of them entered the house, they found the body of Islamia hanging from the shower.
The police suspected that the woman was killed by her husband. A brother of Islamia Bibi, Anwer Zaib, told the police that Ameer had continuously been hurling death threats at his sister. He said every now and then, Islamia would leave her home and come to live with her parents.
In a separate case, Ehtashaam Mohammed Farooqi was shot dead in Sohrab Goth. The body was retrieved from the bushes near Gannah Mandi of Sohrab Goth on Sunday morning.
Police said that acting on a tip-off, they shifted the body to hospital after completing legal formalities. During investigation, they found that a complaint had been lodged by Farooqi’s family.
Police called the family members to the hospital who verified the identity of the deceased. He was a resident of Block-3, Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
The family members said Farooqi left home at 9pm on Saturday without informing the family.
Moreover, when it was too late they searched for him at his friends’ homes and also tried to contact him on his cell phone number which was constantly switched off.
SHO Mazhar Ali Mazhar of Sohrab Goth said that the deceased used to gamble and was adept at it. To facilitate investigation they had visited the gambling spots and asked the owners to deliver the CDs of video recordings to them which could help them nab the suspects.
SHO Mazhar said that with the video recordings they had managed to find out the time of Farooqi’s presence at the gambling den and the time he left.
A case was reported and investigation is under way.
