Karachi: PPP activist among two killed
KARACHI: Two people, one of whom an activist of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), were killed in separate incidents reported in the city on Saturday.
Faizan Khan, son of Mohammed Khan, was shot dead in an attack in the Soldier Bazaar area. The incident occurred late on Friday night in Garden West, near Jama Haleem.
Police said that Faizan was an activist of the PPP of Ward PS-117 and was a personal guard of PPP Ward President Saleem Panjwani.
Faizan was targeted by two motorcyclists who shot him injured and then fled. He was subsequently rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased received a single bullet wound to his body.
Activists and leaders of the PPP later arrived at the hospital where they launched a protest over the killing of their companion, saying that he had been targeted by a “rival group”. Faizan was a resident of Patel Para.
Investigators say that Faizan’s murder is just one more incident in a recent wave of politically-motivated targeted killings.
They said that recovered empty TT pistol shells from the scene of the crime and that all evidence will be sent for forensic testing at the Sindh Police Lab.
In a separate case, the tortured and bullet-riddled body of Khalid was found lying in the bushes in Shanti Nagar on Saturday morning.
Police officials shifted the body to the hospital and during the course of the investigation the deceased was identified as Khalid, alias Dalmia. Khalid was a resident of Jhandu Para and was found to be guilty of a number of crimes.
Officials added that the Khalid had been hiding in the vicinity to avoid the police. They claim that he was abducted by an “unknown criminal” on Friday night, who, after torturing and shooting him to death, threw his body in the area.
Road accidents: Two people, one of whom was a teenage boy, were killed in separate mishaps that occurred on Saturday.
The boy was crushed to death in Ibrahim Hyderi area. Police officials said that the deceased was crossing the main Ibrahim Hyderi road when a vehicle collided into him.
In a separate incident, Haroon Ahmed was crushed to death while crossing a road near the Customs House.
