Karachi: 5 killed in separate incidents
KARACHI: Five people, one of whom a member of the Tableegi Jamaat, were killed in different areas of the city on Wednesday. Abdul Rasheed, 26, was shot by unidentified motorcyclists in the Gulbahar police limits. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a critical condition, where he expired during treatment. Police suspected that Rasheed’s was a target killing.
An unidentified man was stabbed to death by unknown attackers in the Maripur police jurisdiction. The victim was reportedly travelling back to his residence when he was attacked. After being called to the scene, police took the body to the Civil Hospital for an autopsy. Police officials linked the murder to an old enmity.
Mehtab Khan, reportedly a member of the Tableegi Jamaat, was shot dead by assailants near Rehmat Chowk, Orangi Town, on Wednesday evening. Police officials said the 45-year-old left his home to purchase household items from a market. On his way back, he encountered two men on a motorcycle. The men, who were wearing helmets, started firing at Mehtab, injuring him badly. The injured was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment.
Investigators termed the murder a target killing, and said they were looking at a number of lines of inquiry to ascertain the motive. Police recovered found empty shells of a 9mm pistol from the scene of the crime, which were sent to the Sindh Police Lab for forensics testing. Meanwhile, an elderly woman was knocked dead in the Baldia Town police area.
