Karachi: DHA security inspector among four killed
KARACHI: Four people, including a Defence Housing Authority (DHA) security inspector, were killed in the city on Thursday. Two armed men tried breaking into the bungalow of Khurrum Zia Khan on Khayban-e-Bahria in DHA Phase VII. While the robbers were entering the house, Khurrum’s younger brother saw them and called the police. A mobile van was dispatched to the crime scene.
In the meantime, DHA’s Security Inspector, Zafar Iqbal, tried to overpower the robbers, but he was fired upon by the intruders as he was entering the house. The suspects then fled, leaving Iqbal badly injured.
The fleeing suspects were met by the police van dispatched to the scene. The robbers opened fire on the police officials, who shot back at the criminals. After a brief encounter, the police arrested both the criminals, one of whom had been injured during the firing.
The police were taking the injured to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre when Iqbal breathed his last. During interrogation, the injured suspect disclosed his name as Waseem while the other criminal was identified as Javed.
Police recovered two TT pistols and a motorcycle that they had stolen to make good their escape. In another incident, the Sohrab Goth police, on receiving the location of a group of criminals, raided a hideout in Indus Plaza near the Al- Asif Square police kiosk.
The criminals, who were armed, opened fire upon seeing the police. The police returned fire and wounded one of the armed men; however the rest of the criminals managed to flee. The injured criminal, 30-year-old Khalilullah, was being rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital when he succumbed to his injuries.
In another incident, Muhammad Naeem, 26, was killed by two armed men riding a motorcycle near Korangi Sector 50/A, Zaman Town police limits. The armed men managed to flee after the incident.
The area people, on hearing the gunshots, rushed to the spot and saw his body in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the police. The mobile van of concerned police station reached the spot but he breathed his last on the way to the hospital.
According to the police, the deceased was killed in a targeted incident. Meanwhile, Saeedullah, 30, was gunned down by unidentified people near Surjani Town situated in Sector-4/B in Surjani Town police jurisdiction.
Some passers-by saw the incident and informed the police. The mobile van of the concerned police station reached the spot and took the injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a critical condition but he succumbed to his injuries before they could reach the hospital. According to the police, it was a targeted killing.
