Karachi: Security guard, notorious criminal killed in encounters
KARACHI: A security guard and a notorious criminal were shot dead in separate encounters that took place in the metropolis on Thursday. A constable of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Security’s vigilance team was shot dead in a robbery bid at Khayaban-e-Bahria, Defence within the precincts of Gizri police station. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday when at least three robbers barged into the house of an industrialist situated at Defence Khayaban-e-Bahria.
The armed robbers took all family members hostage and started looting valuables. In the meantime, one of the family members managed to press the security alarm button sending a call to the DHA Security. Consequently, the DHA security staff reached the scene and one of their constables, Zafar Iqbal, 43, son of Abdullah Khan managed to get hold of a robber. However, his accomplice opened fire on Iqbal, killing him on the spot. Thereafter, the bandits were trying to flee when they were intercepted by police who arrested Waseem and Javed after an encounter while their other accomplice namely Hassan managed to escape.
A police official informed that Javed also received bullet injuries during the encounter and police recovered two TT pistols from their possession. The body of Zafar was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. Official said that the victim hailed from Chakwal, Punjab and lived in the DHA quarters.
Separately, a notorious criminal was shot dead while his six accomplices managed to escape an encounter in Indus Plaza within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. A police party raided the plaza on a tip-off regarding the presence of notorious criminals from Fateh Group. However, they were fired at on reaching the area. In retaliation, one of the suspects received bullets and died on the spot while his six accomplices managed to flee from a back door.
DSP Nisar Lodhi said that the deceased was identified as 28-year-old Abdul Khalil, son of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Madina Colony, Sacchal. He said that the deceased belonged to notorious Fateh Group and that they also recovered a TT pistol from his possession. DSP Lodhi said that the ringleader of Fateh Group was also killed in a similar manner some nine months ago, adding that the group was notorious for land grabbing and had illegally occupied some apartments of the Indus Plaza. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
Police officer said that the victim hailed from Afghanistan and was involved in several cases of kidnapping for ransom, robberies, attempt to rape and other henonius crimes. Later, police moved his body to the Edhi Morgue. Case could not be registered till filing of this report.
