ISLAMABAD: The Motorway Police in the wee hours of Sunday foiled an attempt to transport an industrialist to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who was kidnapped for ransom from Lahore, Motorway Police spokesman Umar Shuaib Ejaz said.

The industrialist of Lahore, Feroze Shah, was kidnapped from Gulberg on Saturday while he was heading towards his industrial unit in his Toyota car (LHR-147) by a group of three captors at gunpoint, he said. The Lahore Police informed the Motorway Police about the incident and requested to help them in the recovery of the kidnapped industrialist.

Upon receiving information, SSP (M-1) Mohammad Ali Babakhail launched a massive search, alerted all patrolmen and set up pickets to intercept the car carrying the industrialist.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Motorway Police spotted a car near Kallar Kahar, coming from Lahore, and signalled its driver to stop but the driver sped up the car. However, police chased the car and forced its driver to stop and found the blindfolded industrial tied with rope. Police warned the captors to surrender, but there was only the driver in the car. The driver was taken into custody and recovered arms and ammunition from the car.

The other two captors either escaped taking advantage of the darkness or only one suspect was taking the captive to KP. The driver was identified as Naik Mohammad hailing from KP.

DIG Jahanzaib Khan Jogezai told the media that on receiving information, Motorway Police IG Wajid Khan Durrani had ordered deployment of extra mobile force on the motorway. He said that a special search operation has been conducted to trace the absconding captors in the surrounding areas.

The DIG said that the captors could have been hidden in the hilly areas adjacent to the motorway leaving the kidnapped industrialist and driver behind. He claimed that the captors would be arrested during search operation. He added that the recovered industrialist has been shifted to Lahore and the driver was handed over to police.
