Lahore: Robber held after being injured in crossfire
LAHORE: A crossfire between robbers and a food outlet owner during a robbery bid left three people injured, including a robber, on Ferozpure Road in Ichhra early on Thursday. The injured robber, who was held in a brief search operation, told police that he had been committing robberies in Karachi, allegedly for a political party.
Model Town SP (operation) Malik Muhammad Awais told Dawn that four robbers stormed the outlet, Pizza Inn, owned by Shaukat Ali, around 2:30am and tried to loot cash and valuables at gunpoint.
He said Shaukat and his brother Muhammad Ali offered resistance following which the robbers attacked Ali with butt of their guns.
Shaukat, who was carrying a pistol, opened fire on the robbers, injuring one of them. Meanwhile, a gunshot fired by the robbers hit Shaukat, leaving him injured too.
On hearing the gunshots, shopkeepers and some patrolling policemen got alert.
The SP said that immediately after the botched up robbery bid, the outlaws riding two bikes sped towards Ahata Maul Chand. He said Mohafiz Force personnel, who were later joined by a heavy police contingent, gave them a chase.
He said the robbers left their bikes and started running, but the police continued the chase and managed to capture the injured one, identified as Sadaan Gull (32).
The SP said the injured were shifted to the Services Hospital by Rescue 1122 ambulances.
He said Sadaan, who was in stable condition, told police that he was a member of a gang and belonged to Tribal Area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mr Awais said the gang had recently moved to Lahore from Karachi where, according to them, they used to commit robberies for a political party.
He said the police seized two motorcycles being used by the robbers and registered a case under Section 394 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
