Petition against harassment in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court disposed of a petition of a farmer against police harassment as the police informed the court that the petitioner’s relatives were involved in some criminal cases. The court was hearing the petition of Nazeer Ahmed, who had sought protection against police harassment.

 

The police filed its comments on the petition, submitting that the brothers and other relatives of the petitioner had been involved in criminal cases, including murder of policemen.

The police officials said that a petition had been filed to protect the accused from police action. They assured that no unlawful action would be taken against the petitioner unless warranted by the law, but police would continue its operation to arrest the culprits.



A single bench of the SHC, headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, after an undertaking from the police officials, disposed of the petition, directing the petitioner not to harbour or protect his brothers who had been involved in criminal cases.

The same bench also dismissed bail application of a woman who had been facing trial in a murder case. Sahar, mother of two, along with her husband, Zafar Khan, was accused of murdering Saira Bano on December 15, 2010.
