Karachi: SIU arrests 7 gangsters
KARACHI: Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh Police claimed to have apprehended seven gangsters during separate raids in various parts of the city on Friday.
The arrested gangsters included Kashif, Nadeem, Tariq Hussain, Hanif, Amir, Sattar Bugti and Ghulam Ali. Two hand grenades and seven TT pistols were also recovered from their possessions. According to SIU officials, the arrests were made during separate encounters in Surjani, Manghopir and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
SIU Chief SSP Shahjahan said that the two, Nadeem and Kashif, were behind attacking the hardware shop in Liaquatabad in which at least five people, including the owner of the shop, were wounded over refusal of ransom amount of Rs 500,000. He further said that the arrested men were associated with the Lyari gangster Ghaffar Zikri and had been involved in five murders and several cases of crime.
The remaining two gangsters, Sattar and Ghulam, were also associated with the Lyari gangster group and were planning to carry out the terror activity when they were arrested on a tip-off, he added. However, the accused persons, Tariq Hussain alias Humayun, Hanif and Amir, were arrested after a brief encounter in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. They demanded Rs 0.5 million ransom money from a senior doctor Ejaz, associated with the Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town.
