Fake fertiliser factory busted in Karachi
KARACHI: A police teamfromthe Shah Latif police station, in collaboration with a team of Malir’s deputy commissioner, on Tuesday busted a fake fertilisers factory operating in the Malir Cantt area. The factory was producing fertilisers that itwas illegally selling under the name of Angro Pak Chemicals, a well known company.
Police officials have arrested three of the factory’s employees, and have also seized a huge quantity of chemicals, fertilisers and machinery from the factory. Station House Officer (SHO) Amanullah Marwat of the Shah Latif police station said that a few days ago, during a police patrol, they noticed several fertiliser bags lying near the link road of National Highway.
He ordered his subordinates to inspect the bags, which were found filledwith fertilisers and labeled as belonging to Angro Pak Chemicals. He then notified Angro Pak, which sent its Coordinator Mohammed Ali to the police station. SHO Marwat handed the bags over to the company’s representative, and asked him to verify whether the fertilisers had in fact been issued by their factory.
Angro Pak’s representative sent the fertilisers to their lab, where itwas determined that the recovered material was inauthentic, and that it had probably been prepared in an illegal factory. Upon receiving this information, the police lodged an FIR under a complaint by Mohammed Ali, and immediately began an investigation to apprehend the culprits.
During the investigation, the police was successful in tracing the contact information of the people who were involved in preparing the fake fertilisers. Marwat said that he had personally called the number given to him by sources, and that the call was picked up by a man who identified himself as Ramzan, who claimed to be a representative of Angro Pak. The SHO told Ramzan that he needed some 200 bags of fertiliser, and that he would pick them up from his factory.
Ramzan did not agree to this, and instead insisted that he would deliver the bags directly to Marwat. A deal was finalised anyway. The SHO,who was also working in collaboration with a team with DC Malir, received a tip about a fake factory that was operational in the Malir Cantt area. Acting on this information, he, along with the Angro Pak Coordinator and DC Malir’s team, conducted a raid at the factory on Tuesday morning.
After cordoning off the factory from all sides, officials stormed the factory and arrested three employees inside. They also seized more than 500 kilograms of various chemicals and fertilisers along with machinery. The employees were identified as Wahid Bux, Rafaqat and Pervez. During investigations, they revealed that the factory was being run by Ramzan and Ismail, neither of whom was in town at the time.
