Peshawar: Two kidnappers nabbed
PESHAWAR: The police during a raid recovered a kidnapped child and arrested two alleged kidnappers from Ring Road on Monday, officials said.
Sohail, a Grade-III student, was kidnapped from the jurisdiction of the Paharipura Police Station on January 19.
The police later lodged a case on the complaint of his father, Mohammad Nawaz, on January 31. “We lodged the FIR after the family received the call for ransom. During the investigation we came to know that the kidnapped child would be shifted to somewhere in the tribal areas. A police party conducted the raid, recovered Sohail and arrested two kidnappers,” said the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Investigation Peshawar, Umar Riaz.
The alleged kidnappers were identified as Riaz and Arif, two locals of Budhoo Samarbagh. The official said another kidnapper, Tahir of Akbarpura, was absconding. Two of the kidnappers are the co-villagers of the child and had come to know that his father has sold a piece of land recently.
The official said at least five children kidnapped during the last few weeks have been recovered by the police. The families, however, have reached settlement with the kidnappers in most of the cases, the official said. “It’s easy to recover the captives from the settled areas. We faced problems only when the kidnapped persons are shifted to tribal areas,” said Umar Riaz.
A number of people kidnapped from Peshawar and shifted to any of the tribal agencies could not be recovered even after several months of their kidnapping. These include the vice-chancellor of the Islamia College University as well as many other high-profile people.
