Lahore: CM issues orders to arrest factory owners in 48 hours
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed the police to arrest the owners of a pharmaceutical company within 48 hours; the factory’s building had collapsed on Monday crushing 26 workers to death.
The Chief Minister visited the site of the mishap at Khara Stop on Wednesday, inspected various parts of the veterinary medicines factory and monitored the ongoing rescue operation. He was briefed by Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer and District Coordination Officer about the rescue operation, the number of casualties and injured persons, as well as the medical treatment being given to them.
While talking to the media after his visit, the Chief Minister said that whosoever is found responsible for the incident will not be spared; he assured that the Punjab government will provide monetary assistance to the victim’s families.
To a question that the factory had previously been sealed three times for being dangerous but the owners were later allowed to resume their business, the CM said that the authorities are inquiring this matter. He added that the incident is heart wrenching and the government will take swift action against the persons found accountable.
The CM Punjab said that he has ordered an investigation report to be presented to him very soon and the government will take action against other such factories located in the City, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
PML(N) City President Muhammad Pervez Malik, MNA Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Zaeem Hussain Qadri, CCPO Lahore Malik Ahmad Raza Tahir and others officials were also present there during the CM’s visit.
