Jaranwala: Former bar chief shot dead
JARANWALA: Jaranwala Tehsil Bar Association former president Malik Muhammad Akbar Awan was murdered by unidentified people here on Monday. Reportedly, Malik Muhammad Akbar Awan was going to his chamber from his residence when the unidentified assailants shot him dead. The police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital.
There was an enmity between the lawyer and his opponents at Chak 586/GB. The rival party had implicated Malik Akbar in a murder. He was released on bail in the case some weeks ago. It is learnt that police have arrested three accused, who are stated to be the alleged plotter of the murder.
After the murder, lawyers reached the hospital. They blocked a road near the hospital for four hours. They also burnt tyres to register their protest. They were chanting slogans against the SP, the DSP and the City SHO. Talking to newsmen, lawyers alleged that the incident took place due to the negligence of police. They further alleged that the police reached the spot after one hour after the incident.
Meanwhile, a meeting of lawyers was held in the bar room under the chairmanship of acting bar president Khaliq Mehmood Awan. The lawyers passed a resolution, demanding arrest of all the accused in 24 hours. They announced complete strike till the arrest of all the accused.
Later, Malik Akbar was buried in a graveyard at Chak 586/GB. A large number of the people attended his funeral prayers.
