Karachi: 2 cinema blast suspects exonerated
KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday ordered the release of two suspects in the cinema blast case for want of evidence. Asghar Ali alias Umar Baloch and Usman Ghani alias Hamza were arrested for their alleged involvement in a low-intensity blast in the Kumar cinema within the remit of the Kharadar police station in November, 2011 in which seven people were wounded.
The investigation officer of the case submitted a report in court under Section 173 (report of police officer) of the criminal procedure code in ‘A’ class with recommendation to release the detained suspects under Section 497(ii) of the CrPC as no evidence had been collected against them to link them with the alleged offence.
Judge Ghulam Mustafa Memon of the ATC-III allowed the police report and ordered the release of both suspects after the complainant and other eyewitnesses did not identify the suspects.
