Bahawalpur: Hearing of Bahawalpur press club occupation case
BAHAWALPUR: A proclaimed offender and dozens of his accomplices attacked and injured journalists after the adjournment of the press club occupation case on District Courts premises here on Tuesday. As the journalists came out of the courtroom, Ijaz Sara, a proclaimed offender wanted in several cases by the Baghdadul Jadeed police, with his armed accomplices attacked them. As a result, several journalists were injured. The journalists saved their lives by taking refuge in the chamber of a lawyer.
After the incident, the Bahawalpur Union of Journalists (BhUJ) Barna Group, BUJ (Dastoori Group) and the Bahawalpur press club members staged a demonstration and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They were led by press club president Amin Basit, BhUJ Barna Group president Muhammad Ameen Abbasi, PFUJ FEC member A Majeed Gill, Naseer Ahmad Nasir and Junaid Nazir of the BUJ Dastoori Group. They also demanded action against the lawyers who supported the attackers in escaping from the court. Journalists have moved the court to get the press club vacated from the occupation of rascals, including self-declared president Jalaluddin Bhatti, a pharmaceutical company employee.
