Peshawar: FIA swings into action to bust cyber blackmailers
PESHAWAR: Action by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against people having fake emails and Facebook accounts to blackmail people, especially females, would provide relief to thousands of users of the social media forums. The first action was taken by the Cyber Crime Wing of the FIA last week when the officials arrested a student of software engineering of a local institution. The boy was accused of blackmailing females through Facebook accounts as well as hacking their emails and Facebook IDs, which has been a practice since long.
The number of netizens using social networking websites Facebook, Google +, Orkut and Youtube has recorded a sharp increase in Pakistan during the last few years.
Even illiterate people and those who do not have know-how of the information technology are having one or more accounts to interact with their friends. However, some users, according to an official of the FIA, are misusing the facility and teasing and even blackmailing high-profile people, especially females.
“The Cyber Crime Wing is going to take action against all those misusing the facility so that the internet is not used for teasing and blackmailing others,” said an official of the FIA. The official said there were reports that many blackmailers on the social media forums were misusing family pictures and causing problems for the families.
