Karachi: SHC dismisses bail plea in explosive material case
KARACHI: Chief Justice Mushir Alam of the Sindh High Court said on Tuesday every person was entitled to a fair trial even if they were involved in heinous crimes. The observation came during the hearing of the bail application of a man who was taken into custody for possession of 50 kilograms of explosive material.
According to the prosecution, the applicant, Umer, belonged to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and was allegedly involved in terrorist activities. Umer’s counsel submitted that his client was granted bail in all cases except the one in question and had been languishing in prison for two years without a trial. The state counsel opposed the bail application, submitting that the applicant was a hardened criminal.
Later, the SHC dismissed the bail plea, and ordered that the case be sent to the judicial complex for trial and the complainant and the investigation officer be examined within two months.
