Islamabad: FBR seizes 111,642 bottles of liquor
ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)’s Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation have seized 111,642 bottles of foreign origin contraband liquor in Karachi worth millions of rupees.
The Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation – FBR received information that some elements would make an attempt to illegally smuggle huge quantity of contraband liquor in the garb of duty free cargo meant for diplomatic Bonded Warehouse of M/s Duty Free Shops Limited (DFSL), Islamabad. The Regional Office, Karachi of the Directorate General identified and detained the containers at QICT, Port Qasim.
The Directorate General requested M/s Duty Free Shop Limited, Islamabad to confirm as to whether or not the detained consignments of liquor were imported by them. M/s Duty Free Shop Limited, Islamabad confirmed that the said containers were neither imported by them nor they claim ownership of these containers.
Upon disowning of the containers by M/s Duty Free Shop, Islamabad the Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation requested the Model Customs Collectorate, Port Qasim, Karachi for joint examination of the detained containers. The containers were jointly examined from 14th to 16th February, 2012 by the staff of the Directorate General and Model Customs Collectorate, Port Qasim which resulted into the recovery of 111,642 bottles /cans of foreign origin contraband alcoholic drinks.
The recovered liquor was jointly seized by the Directorate General and the Model Customs Collectorate, Port Qasim and given under the superdari of the Terminal Operation, QICT, Karachi.
