Karachi: 6 fall prey to target killing, violence
KARACHI: Six people were killed in separate acts of target killing and violence in different areas of the metropolis here on Monday. A 50-year-old watchman Gull Badshah Khan, son of Khewa Khan was gunned down in Mohammad Ali Society situated near Rangoonwala Community Centre. Two armed men shot him five times after calling him out of the house in early morning. Gull died on the spot and body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
Victim’s relative Zar Mohammad Khan informed police that Gull hailed from Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and had some personal enmity with his tribesmen. His cousin was also killed in the same manner some four months ago, the relative added.
Police said victim was a watchman for eight years, lastly deployed in Mohammad Ali Society. They have registered an FIR (71/2012) against unidentified men on the complaint of Zar Mohammad and initiated the probe.
Separately, a man was shot dead near Qayyumabad graveyard within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. The victim, 51-year-old Ajmal Khan, son of Wali Mohammad was on his way home when unidentified armed men shot him in the head. He died instantly and body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.
SHO Ghaffar Jumani said victim was a labourer by profession and as per his brother Taj Khan, he was returning after attending a friend’s marriage ceremony when the incident took place. Victim has left behind two children in mourning. Police suspect that the murder was motivated by some personal enmity. Case will be registered after the burial of deceased.
In another incident, a man was shot dead in Madina Town, Bin Qasim within the jurisdiction of Shah Latif police station. SHO Amman Ullah Marwat informed that a 28-year-old taxi driver Asfand Yar Khan, son of Waris Khan was on his way to Abbas Mohalla when two men tried to intercept him. Khan tried to speed away but the assailants opened fire. Resultantly, he received a bullet in the neck and died instantly.
SHO Marwat further informed that victim was a resident of the same area and hailed from Kohat. His family members say Khan had received threats from one of his community members and they would nominate the suspects after the burial of victim.
Similarly, a man, Ejaz Khan, 30, son of Khubus Khan was gunned down by an unknown armed man in a bread shop situated in Machchar Colony, near Lyari Railway Station. The victim used to live in the same area. Body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for post mortem. SHO Madad Ali Zardari said it appears the victim was killed over some monetary dispute. Case could not be registered till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, a teenager was victimised by a stray bullet in his apartment building near Karimabad within the precincts of Azizabad police station. The victim, 16-year-old Mirza Moin Baig, son of Mirza Arshad Baig was in the compound of his building when a stray bullet penetrated his head. He died on his way to the hospital. SHO Haseeb Qureshi said victim was an Intermediate student and according to the area people, a stray bullet had victimised him.
In yet another incident, a youngster was shot dead while another injured near UBL Sports Complex within the precincts of Yousuf Plaza police station. The incident took place at Kashti Chowk, FB Area, Block 16.
Two labourers, Juma Khan, 20 and Abdul Basit, 18, were going towards Machchar Colony, Sohrab Goth when two robbers tried to snatch their cell phones and cash. They offered resistance on which one of the bandits opened fire, injuring both friends critically. Police shifted them to the ASH for treatment where Juma Khan succumbed to his injuries. SHO Ali Hassan said victim was a resident of Machchar Colony. An FIR (27/12) has been registered against unidentified men on the complaint of Abdul Basit.
