Karachi: 10 quacks held in Machar Colony
KARACHI: Health officials of the defunct Keamari Town on Wednesday apprehended 10 quacks from Machar Colony who were practising medicine without medical degrees or any relevant qualification. They were handed over to the Docks police. Keamari Town health officer Dr Ashraf Saeed-uz-Zaman told The News that a team inspected several clinics operating in Machar colony and found that at least 10 of them were being run by quacks.
“They had no degrees and were giving painkillers as well as other medicines that are normally used to treat livestock.” He said the action was initiated on the directives of the secretary health and would continue till all the quacks playing with the lives of people were apprehended.
SHO Docks police station Madad Ali Zardari told The News that they, along with health department officials, raided the clinics and nabbed 10 people. “We are registering cases against them after seeking assistance from the legal branch,” he added.
