Karachi: ‘Midwife’ sent to jail
KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Saturday remanded a suspected midwife in judicial custody in the five foetuses case. Nuzhat Aslam, said to be posing as a lady doctor, was arrested on Feb 23 at her clinic in Chakra Goth in connection with the case of the five foetuses found in a garbage dump in Manzoor Colony on Feb 14.
Following the expiry of her one-day police remand, the police produced the suspect before a judicial magistrate (south), who sent her to prison on judicial remand till March 4 and directed the investigation officer to submit a charge-sheet.
A case (FIR 25/12) was registered under Sections 329 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body), 338-B (isqat-i-janin or cause a pregnant woman to miscarry), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offence) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Mehmoodabad police station.
